New Jazz Underground
New Jazz Underground, an American trio formed by Abdias Armenteros (saxophonist), Sebastian Rios (bassist), and TJ Reddick (drummer), blends traditional jazz with influences from swing, hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, and Afro-Cuban music. After meeting at Juilliard, they began performing in NYC parks during the 2020 lockdown and gained viral attention through energetic, genre-defying videos. With over 85k subscribers on YouTube, their releases, like MF Doom Suite and Harlem to Havana, demonstrate their deep respect for jazz's roots while pushing boundaries with new sounds. Winners of the 2023 DCJazzPrix, the trio has performed at major festivals and collaborated with renowned artists. Their independent video and music productions, along with their dedication to teaching, have established them as influential figures in reshaping the future of jazz.
