CALLISTO is the latest avant-jazz project from saxophonist Peter Van Huffel, a bass-less quartet that blurs the lines between composition and free improvisation. Featuring Van Huffel on baritone saxophone and electronics, Canadian trumpeter Lina Allemano, Greek pianist and electronics artist Antonis Anissegos, and German drummer Joe Hertenstein, the group creates a bold and orchestral sound despite its compact lineup. Their debut album, Meandering Demons (Clean Feed Records, 2024), showcases intricate compositions that balance structure with spontaneity, exploring harmonic depth and electronic textures.
