Composer, saxophonist, and flutist Anna Webber is a leading figure in avant-garde jazz and contemporary classical music, best known for her long-running Simple Trio with pianist Matt Mitchell and drummer John Hollenbeck. Since 2013, the trio has explored intricate polyrhythms and improvisation, earning acclaim for albums like Idiom and their latest release, simpletrio2000 (2024). Webber, a 2021 Berlin Prize Fellow and 2018 Guggenheim Fellow, has received numerous honors, including the 2024 Herb Alpert Award and top rankings in the DownBeat Critic’s Poll. She also co-leads the Webber Morris Big Band and the quintet Shimmer Wince, collaborating with renowned artists such as Roscoe Mitchell, Dave Douglas, and Ches Smith. Originally from British Columbia, Webber continues to push the boundaries of jazz and new music through her compositions and performances.
